Sony 50mm f1.8 further impression

As oppose to my first impression, here's my "second" impression of this lens after a month's use.

It is very sharp at f4.0 as described in many online gear reviews, makes it a good landscape lens.

Two images of the same bridge from different sides and at different time.
The first image was shot during sunset, it was very dim, even bumping up the shadow all the way up doesn't make it as bright and cheerful as the second one does, which is shot in bright day light. The second image, however, was accidentally shot on 10MB JPEG, it's pretty good as long as you don't zoom in, because there's no details in there)

This image above was shot at random walk in Venice, from an alley where I briefly lived for a month and half last year. The original image has blown out sky, I brought down the highlight to bring back the sky, however by doing that it created some sort of HDR feel, while the original image wasn't in any way outstanding, this final image earned me more than 50 likes in Jason Lanier's photography facebook group, the most I got there so far.

This one focused on the water instead of the gondola, but it was pretty cool. Interesting how auto focus works, I was focusing on the gondola and a wave came, water splash everywhere, I press the shutter button and the water was captured. Now that's weird when you say this lens focuses slowly.

Now move on to portrait shooting. Despite the slower focus, it's more than sufficient for shooting still models. The focus is just fine, I can only say it's just fine, after reviewing and comparing the sharpness of eyes shot on this lens and the ones shot on 85mm manual lens, you know that it doesn't guarantee the sharpness as you manually focus does.

But sometimes it doesn't really matter that much, you are shooting with 50mm lens, if you have interesting background or story to tell, the lack of ultra sharpness in the eyes is forgivable.
This image was shot with an ND filter on, actually, the cheapest ND filter you can find on Amazon. The initial result was foggy and blue-ish, well, cheap filter. Also everything tend to be less sharp, it's like when you see things through a thick glass. I bring the "black" and "white" down to almost the bottom and "highlight" all the way down, then this picture started to look natural.
This following image is the look without editing, straight out of camera with the filter, it's ugly:

Here are just some more pictures:

In this image the eyes are actually very very sharp, but it's at f3.5 instead of f1.8.

That's it for my "second" impression, I'll show more picture in the future. So far this lens along with my Samyang 85mm and 14mm have pretty much entirely replaced my kit zoom lens (28-70mm), in fact I haven't touched my kit lens since the arrival my nifty-fifty. Not perfect lens, it's slow, sometimes it doesn't focus in the eye perfectly, but it's cheap and fit for many different purpose, as people say, it's versatile by nature. I guess I won't be getting another lens any time soon, well maybe a macro lens, but then I really need to save money for a Sony A7rii before I upgrade to any better lenses than my current "budget" collection.

ps. still didn't figure out how to auto focus during video shooting with this 50mm sony lens
