Full frame camera crop mode = Crop sensor camera?

Short answer, No.

Here's a image comparison, both shot with sony 50mm f1.8 at f1.8, shutter speed 1/50s

Shot on Sony A7 and Sony A6300 respectively

On Full frame it used ISO 3200 (I set auto ISO ranging from 100 to 6400), while on crop body it used ISO 2400, this is the only difference. You can see there's more noise in the image from the full frame camera, also the image is brighter on crop body, even though it used lower ISO than the full frame one. Surprise huh?

A6300

A7

I was afraid that the difference on ISO as well as the background change(my monitor) made the difference on the images, therefore I shot another pair of images with same ISO and identical background, the result is the same, crop body results better image quality than full frame on crop mode.

However, that doesn't mean a crop sensor body can beat a full frame body, no way, it's only because the A7 is shooting on crop mode, just imaging adding the cropped off part and then compare the images... full frame wins no matter what condition. But, good to know the difference between full frame on crop mode vs crop body, had wondered for a while whether they were identical. Well, the answer is no.
